World Championship course, arrival at altitude in Thyon 2000, final time in Fribourg: show time!

First rainbow stage, rhythm and mountain at full speed: the TdR will be followed like never before from April 28 to May 3, 2020

Aigle / Estavayer-le-Lac, December 5, 2019 / The Tour de Romandie 2020 will be timed to the World Championships to better excite its fans. Following the prologue in Oron, the Romandie circuit will offer the UCI WorldTour peloton a general rehearsal on the Aigle-Martigny course of the UCI 2020 road cycling world championship. The riders will cycle several times around the rainbow circuit, except for the passage through Sion. The rest of the Tour will follow the same pattern as this test event: from La Neuveville to Saint-Imier and Estavayer, with each day a final circuit to keep the atmosphere of the circuit, and on Saturday, the final stage in Fribourg, a Sion – Thyon 2000 final stage, with a finish at the foot of the snowy peaks, to round off a mountain course like no other.

With a record elevation of 13,080 meters, the course of the #TdR2020 is among the most challenging in history. It promises to demand a complete and strong-willed runner: one will indeed need composure along the grueling course that will crisscross the Swiss Alps. For example, a champion of the Primoz Roglic style, for a triple victory that no one, even among the greatest, has yet managed. Stephen Roche, the only triple winner of the Tour de France, jumped three years after 1983 and 1984 to achieve his record of three victories. Before him Louis Rostollan (1960-1961), then Pascal Richard (1993-1994), Dario Frigo (2001-2002), Tyler Hamilton (2003-2004) and Chris Froome (2013-2014) stood the test.

Stefan Küng for the 2020 poster

The Tour de Romandie unveiled the stage leaders for the 74th edition this morning, specifying the distances of each stage, for a total of 683.15 km. For the details of the course and the announced participation, we will have to wait until April 17, 2020.

What is already known is that the Tour de Romandie Foundation, which sees Grégory Devaud succeed Yves Christen, has signed a new contract with Chassot Concept SA for the next five years (2020-2024).

And to celebrate the form of Swiss cycling, it is Stefan Küng, winner of a third stage alone on the TdR 2019, before the world bronze medal, who has been chosen for the 2020 poster.

Promoters in great shape

On the sponsor side, Fromage Le Maréchal announced, even before the start of the 2019 TdR, that it was extending its partnership with the TdR for another two years, which had helped this partner achieve outstanding results. Banque du Léman, the best young rider jersey, has also extended its partnership until 2022. Best climber, with Net+ BLI BLA BLO, and the points jersey with JouezSport! keep their sponsors.

The event organizer is pleased to see Camion Transport and Jacot Chocolatier join the Tour de Romandie family as new sponsors. Finally, the Tour de Romandie, which continues to succeed thanks to the enthusiasm and great team spirit that drives its teams, is launching a video on Thursday, December 5, World Volunteer Day, to salute their fantastic work.
