Press release – Tour de Romandie 2020

Like the Italian races, the Tour de Romandie 2020 will take place.

Estavayer-le-Lac, March 3, 2020 / To put all the cities, partners, volunteers and fans at ease: the organization and the running of the Tour de Romandie from April 28 to May 3, 2020 are not in question at this point by the coronavirus. Just like the Italian races like Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico or Milan-San Remo, whose running was confirmed yesterday, the TdR 2020 is expected to take place normally, with the precautions that will remain in effect.

Chassot Concept SA nevertheless took internal measures in recent days, anticipating the possible worst-case scenario: it is indeed the responsibility of the management of the organizing company to take measures to ensure that its employees are not penalized in the unlikely event of a future cancellation. The dismissed employees will be automatically reinstated once the threat of a possible cancellation of the event is removed.

Cycling races do not fall into the category of sporting events held in confined spaces such as stadiums. Although the start and finish lines gather several thousand spectators, they are spread out over several areas, or rather linearly along the course. And if the Tour of the United Arab Emirates was stopped last Thursday after the fifth of the seven stages, it was because two members of a team were infected with the coronavirus.

As the organization’s boss Richard Chassot pointed out on Monday evening, “The Chassot Concept team is united, motivated and still committed until the TDR, just like the organizing committee in general. The only thing that could stop the TDR 2020 would be an organization ban dictated by the authorities, or else a platoon of professional cyclists decimated by the virus. But we certainly hope that it will be over and under control within two months,” notes Richard Chassot.
